Classes on the farm (drop-in)
Life Skills Class: Boost Your Dog’s Skills and Connection
Our Farm Dog Drop-In Class is the perfect opportunity to work on your dog’s basic obedience, real-life skills, and build a stronger connection with them—without the commitment of a long-term course. Whether you're looking to refine certain skills or address new challenges, this flexible class offers the perfect setting to improve your dog’s behavior in a natural, hands-on environment.
What You’ll Work On:
The Farm Dog Drop-In Class covers a wide variety of topics that are essential for dogs living or working in a farm environment—or any setting that requires well-behaved, responsive dogs. Some of the skills we focus on include:
Recall Practice: Strengthening your dog’s response to recall, ensuring they come when called, even with distractions.
Ignoring Livestock: Teaching your dog to stay calm and focused around animals or other distractions, a key skill for farm dogs.
Greeting Strangers: How to train your dog to remain calm and polite when meeting new people, reducing excitement or anxiety.
Loose Leash Walking: Improving leash manners and ensuring your dog walks calmly by your side, whether on a trail or around town.
Restaurant Practice: Building confidence and good behavior for dogs who join you in public spaces, including restaurants and outdoor cafes.
Real-Life Skills: Addressing any specific challenges or behaviors you need help with—each class is tailored to meet the needs of the group.
Rally-O Classes: A fun new twist on a dog sport
Rally-O (or Rally Obedience) is a dog sport that combines elements of traditional obedience training with a fun, competitive twist. In Rally-O, the dog and handler work together to navigate a course of designated stations (or signs) that give instructions for specific behaviors the dog must perform. The goal is to complete the course accurately and efficiently while maintaining good communication and teamwork between the dog and handler.
Each station typically includes a sign with a command such as "sit," "down," "heel," or "turn," along with some specific directions on how to execute the behavior. As the dog and handler move through the course, the dog must perform the required tasks in the correct order while the handler provides guidance.
What you’ll work on:
1. Basic Obedience Skills: Your dog will be trained to perform fundamental commands like "sit," "down," "stay," "come," and "heel," which are essential for the Rally-O course and general behavior.
2. Sign Interpretations: Rally-O courses are made up of signs, each representing a different behavior or action. In class, you'll learn how to interpret these signs and understand the specific behaviors they require. Your dog will also learn to respond correctly to these cues.
3. Heeling and Positioning: You and your dog will practice walking together on a leash, with your dog in a specific position beside or around you. Rally-O involves walking in different patterns (circles, straight lines, turns), and your dog needs to stay in the proper position while keeping focus on you.
